Giant-leaved ‘ornamental rhubarb’ Rheum palmatum ‘Atro-sanguineum’, moisture-loving Rodgersia pinnata, Rodgersia podophylla and phorbium tenax all help to deliver a luxurious ambience reminiscent of far-flung places to delight in an enchanting mid-summer evening banquet.

The knotweed, Polygonum amplexicaule ‘Atrosanguineum’, is a stalwart of this planting area; with its rich crimson flowers, it continues to give an opulent and lavish display from the beginning of July until the autumn frosts.
